My Calendar of Firsts this week:
- Courting pigeons
- Two patches of snowdrops in my garden (I had wondered where they were!)
- The amazing nacreous clouds, caused by ice crystals refracting the sun’s rays to give the stunning rainbow effect.
My ‘colours’ for the week, along the top left hand page, are the pretty, soft, pastel colours of the nacreous clouds.

Those clouds are beautiful! I must look out for those colours and remember what makes them! I just bought your book and am excited to go worm-hunting at the weekend!
Do let me know how the worm-hunting goes.
We had a great time! Most of our worms are quite small and we haven’t seen much activity in our womery yet…..
We learnt The Worm poem on our walk – a perfect poem for boys!
So pleased I bought your book and looking forward to using it each weekend 🙂
That’s wonderful Victoria! I am thrilled you are enjoying Exploring Nature; do keep me posted on what you are up to.
Nacreous, that’s my new word for the week, love it! I love your landscape at the top of your page. I am still hesitant doing landscapes, drawing trees still scare me but my birds are improving. Maybe by the end of the year I will be confident and hopefully more competent! These journals are going to be such treasures, I will confess to having a little daydream about sharing them with family when I am old and grey!
I saw a dandelion today, apparantly they have been out for weeks in town, shows you how often I go shopping , ha ha.
Glad to hear your sketching is improving. I know what you mean, I feel really intimidated by landscapes. Fortunately mine was all black 😉
A dandelion already!
