Fungus Week ~ Exploring Nature With Children

This week is Fungus Week in Exploring Nature With Children.

We headed to our local nature spot for our Monday nature study.

This morning was perfect Autumnal weather. Foggy, with a slight nip in the air, but not uncomfortably so.

We fed the birds first.

F3

They were, as usual, rather hungry.

Then we went on to hunt for fungus.

We found some beauties!

Then home to complete our journals.

Later this week I shall be posting a tutorial to show you, step by step, how I create the watercolour pages in my journal. I hope this will be helpful.

How is your nature study going this week?

Happy exploring!

Pumpkin Week ~ Exploring Nature With Children

This week was Exploring Nature With Children Pumpkin Week!

This has been our ‘half term’ week. We took a break from our formal learning to relax and recoup.

We went on some walks, big girl had a friend over to stay, little girl went to a Halloween forest school with friends.

6

We carved our pumpkins (and I forgot to photo us doing so!)

The girls dressed up for Halloween

We went to a local community party, and then trick or treating with friends.

Today big girl stayed in bed, whilst little girl, daddy & I went to the park

Autumn Pond Study

Autumn Pond Study

Hello all

Sorry for the delayed post this week – I have been under the weather.

Our nature walk for this week from Exploring Nature With Children was the Autumn Pond Study. We went on Monday; a beautiful, glorious Autumn day! Unfortunately I forgot both my camera and ‘phone!

I do have photos of our nature journals, however, which we did ‘en plein air’.

I did a very ‘sketchy’ sketch, breaking the rule I give my children; ‘Draw what you see, not what you think you see, or want to see!” But I have to confess that after several years of painstakingly sketching exactly what is in front of me, I do enjoy this more ‘laissez-faire’ style.

Elianna sketched the plant life

3

And Rose sketched a fish she could see in the shallow, clear water.
