I’ve been praying in a very simple way for quite some time now.
I realised that, in this season of life, I didn’t always need more words, I just needed a way to return to God, quickly and gently, right in the middle of ordinary things.
Not the long, rambling, quiet-time sort of prayer, but the kind of prayer that fits:
- between getting dressed and beginning a full day,
- comforting your child,
- or while you’re stirring porridge on the stove.
Over time, a little pattern emerged; five small movements that seemed to gather up my whole day:
Listen. Intend. Ground. Hallow. Thank & Trust.
I found that when I prayed like this, I could come back to God easily, again and again. It settled me. It bore fruit in my life; more gentleness, more awareness, more blessing over the ordinary work of home.
And now, because it has been so fruitful for me, I’ve written it down to share with you.
It’s called LIGHT: A Simple Pattern for Everyday Prayer.
Small enough for real life. Deep enough for a rooted life.
Six days, each day to teach one simple way.
So many of us, especially home-educating, nature-loving, trying-to-keep-up-with-the-seasons women, carry this familiar ache:
“I want my home to be prayerful… but my days are so full.”
We tidy, teach, answer emails, feed people, walk in the wind, and somewhere in there we mean to pray, but often the moment passes by. Not because we don’t love God, but because we didn’t have a way to drop straight in.
LIGHT is simply that way in.
Not a big course.
Not a “30-day challenge.”
Just a pattern you can tuck away in your heart:
- Listen – “Here I am.”
- Intend – “Direct My Heart.”
- Ground – “Rooted in Mercy.”
- Hallow – “Bless & Be Blessed.”
- Thank & Trust – “Gratitude & Release.”
You can pray it in a minute.
You can pray it for as long as your heart desires.
You can teach it to your children.
Each Day Features:
- Scripture first
- a short reflection
- the how-to
- Everyday Practice
- Some Practical Ways
- Questions You May Have
- Reflective Journaling Prompts
- Closing Prayer
My hope?
That sometime tomorrow morning, you will make a cup of tea, sit down for five minutes, and read Day One: Listen – Here I am, and feel your shoulders begin to relax.
A little blessing to end
May your home, with its piles of books and half-finished projects, and muddy boots, becomes a place where prayer feels easy.
May you learn to say, even in the midst of it all,
“You are here, Lord, and I am here with You.”
And may LIGHT help you to do just that.
Here you can download the sample, and purchase LIGHT: A Simple Pattern for Everyday Prayer.
From my home to yours,
