I adore opening a new planner; the sense of a fresh start, a hopeful beginning.
When it comes to planning our home education, a planner can’t do the work for us, but a good planner can help to hold the shape of the year for us. It can gather the many threads of our days: books, habits, nature study, copywork, family rhythms, seasonal celebrations, lessons, appointments, and ideas, and help us to see them as a whole, rather than a frantic heap of good intentions!
I created the Raising Little Shoots Charlotte Mason Home Education Planner as I was home educating my own children. Designed for families who love the Charlotte Mason vision of education: living books, nature study, short lessons, attention, beauty, habit, outdoor life, and the slow formation of the child as a whole person.
The 2026–2027 Planner includes 106 printable planning pages within a 116-page PDF, beginning in August 2026. Alongside the dated planning pages, you will also find guided pages to help you think through your year more deeply, including the Mother’s Term Compass Pages and Family Culture & Traditions Pages.
It’s always been important to me to remember that planning is not only about lessons, it is also about asking:
What kind of atmosphere are we creating in our home?
What habits are we gently strengthening?
What books will feed our minds and hearts?
What seasonal rhythms do we want our children to remember?
Where do we need more simplicity?
Where do we need more courage?
Where do we need to make space for wonder?
For those using Exploring Nature With Children, the planner has been created with that rhythm in mind, and the weeks are pre-planned and included in the calendar pages, helping you to bring your nature study, seasonal observations, and weekly plans into one place. You may also wish to download the free annual Exploring Nature With Children calendar to help you see the year’s nature study themes at a glance.
A Few Helpful Resources for Your Planning
If you are beginning, refreshing, or deepening your Charlotte Mason journey this year, here are a few beautiful online places to explore:
For fairy tales, try Grimm’s Fairy Tales on Project Gutenberg or Andersen’s Fairy Tales on Project Gutenberg. Fairy tales can bring moral imagination, courage, beauty, peril, wonder, and deep story-language into the home.
For classic children’s literature, The Baldwin Project is a lovely rabbit hole of older stories, myths, legends, and children’s books.
For Charlotte Mason’s own writings, AmblesideOnline’s Charlotte Mason Series is a generous place to begin, with access to her six-volume series. You might also enjoy their page on Nature Study, especially if you are trying to build a simple, sustainable outdoor rhythm.
For thoughtful historical reading, the PNEU archive is a treasure trove, offering articles, ideas, and glimpses into the living educational movement that grew around Charlotte Mason’s work.
Do keep in mind that a Charlotte Mason education is not built by mastering every resource. It is built by small faithful choices: a poem read aloud, a bird noticed at the window, a child asked to narrate, a habit gently practised, a beautiful book opened again tomorrow.
A Planner as a Servant, Not a Master
The best kind of planning does not make us rigid, or anxious, but instead gives us somewhere kind to return. There will be weeks when everything flows beautifully. There will be weeks when illness, tiredness, interruptions, or ordinary family life undo the plan completely. That does not mean you have failed. It simply means you are educating real children in a real home.
The planner is there to help you to begin again, to re-gather, to notice what matters. To make room for lessons, yes, but also for family culture, seasonal beauty, nature walks, poetry, picture study, handicrafts, scripture, stories, and rest. Home education is not merely a schedule. It is a life! And a thoughtfully planned year can help that life feel less scattered and more intentional.

May this be the year that you plan with clarity, teach with peace, and make room for the quiet riches that grow slowly.
From my home to yours,
