Exploring Nature With Children: A Guided Journal
Exploring Nature With Children is a complete, year-long curriculum designed to guide you, step by step, through an entire calendar year of nature study. Completely self-contained, this book has all the information you need to make nature study happen regularly for your family.
Exploring Nature With Children contains:
- An entire chapter devoted to getting you up and running with nature study.
- Forty-eight weeks of themed and guided nature study; four weeks for each month of the year, organised by season. Exploring Nature With Children can be used as a whole year’s study, or dipped in and out of as you please.
Each week’s guided study contains the following:
- A themed nature walk.
Exploring Nature With Children will take you step by step through a themed, Charlotte Mason-style, nature walk. There is no need to hunt through various books and websites; all the information you need is there, leaving you free to enjoy being out in nature with your child.
- References to the Handbook Of Nature Study.
Exploring Nature With Children is completely self-contained, but includes references to related pages in the Handbook Of Nature Study by Anna Botsford Comstock, should you wish to delve a little deeper.
- A themed book list.
With books for children of all ages, you will find a comprehensive list of living books related to the week’s nature study theme. Exploring Nature With Children is a self-contained course, so the book list is an extra tool, not a necessity.
You will also receive the booklist compiled separately, should you wish to use it as an additional planning tool.
- A poem
Related to the nature theme of the week; a classic piece of poetry that can be used for copywork, dictation, or simply to just read aloud and enjoy.
- A piece of art
The name and details of a piece of art that relates to the nature theme of the week has been included. This can easily be looked up online, or in art books available from your local library.
- Extension activities for your child
Here you will find a list of activities, written directly to your child, that will extend their nature study throughout the whole of the week. You will find ideas for crafts, writing, science, maths, and more, with absolutely no busy work.
Do you need one per child, or can you use one for multiple children?
Dear Angelina,
You just need the one download for your family.
Do let me know if there’s anything else I can help with.
Thank you for choosing my books, I’m honoured to be a part of your home education!
Warmly,
Lynn
Hi Lynn, is there any way I can use PayPal to pay for the copy?
Dear Maribel,
I would be more than happy to send a PayPal invoice; just a few things to consider, so that I can serve you well:
•I shall need you to email me to confirm once you have made the payment. I am processing your purchase manually and may miss the PayPal notification alone. Without a confirmation from the original email it’s very difficult to track who I need to send download links to, especially if the PayPal email address varies from the contact email.
•The download link will come via Payhip, the company that host my book online.
•Please be aware that there will be a waiting time between making your payment & receipt of the download link as the link shall be sent manually.
If you’re happy to go ahead, please email me directly to let me know your PayPal-linked email address & the exact title of the book(s) you wish to purchase.

Do let me know if you have any questions.
Warmly,

Are the books difficult to source if you are in the US?
Dear Sue,
The books are actually a mix of UK & US books. Sometimes people have trouble sourcing them all from their local library, but go with whatever works best for you.
Warmly,
Lynn
Hi, just wanted to see if your curriculum and books are suitable if we live in Australia? Thanks
Dear Erin,
Exploring Nature With Children is written to be as accessible as possible to all families, however, it has a definite northern hemisphere, four season slant. Other families will need to adapt the book slightly to fit with either their climate or location. There are thousands of families who happily use ENWC around the world, but they do have to adjust to suit what is happening in the natural world around them. The best thing to do is to take a look at the preview. Here you can see a complete week’s lessons and the table of contents, which shows the theme for each week. This should help you decide if this curriculum will work for your family.
Exploring Nature Around The Year is written to be used within a northern hemisphere, four season climate, and I would not recommend trying to adapt for Australia.
Do let me know if you have any questions.
Warmly,
Lynn
Hi Erin, I’m in Australia too and I’d love to hear if you ended up purchasing this content to use.
Hi there! The sample makes a reference to a Handbook. Which handbook is this? Something that comes with the curriculum or is it separate or do I find it in a library? Thank you!
Hello there!
Exploring Nature With Children is completely self-contained, but includes references to related pages in the Handbook Of Nature Study by Anna Botsford Comstock, should you wish to delve a little deeper. There’s information in the curriculum about it. You can purchase a hard copy, or it’s available to read online for free.
I hope that helps!
Warmly,
Lynn
I bought this in 2017 was wondering if still the same one? Loved it but need a bit something different for this year…thanks!
Dear Amy,
Yes, it’s the same book. You might like to take a look at Exploring Nature Around the Year : : 365 days of nature journaling

Really excited to give this a go this year! 🙂
Just FYI, on the freebie calendar for 2019-20, September, Weeks 2 & 3 are reversed.
Ah, smashing, have a wonderful year! The weeks are switched to accommodate the Harvest Moon, as it’s never a fixed date 🙂
Warmly,
Lynn
Hi,
I was wondering what your experience is in printing and binding the book and a local copy shop like staples. How much do you typically spend on 240 pages? There are SO many amazing homeschool curriculums that I have been dragging my feet on (yours being number 1) because I am nervous about how much it will cost to have it printed. Thank you for your time and creating such an amazing resource.
Kelsey
I just checked my local office depot. They were going to be around $20 for the curriculum and around 40 for the journal. Theres the homeschool printing company that is 5 cents per b&w page but they have about a 6 week turn around.
Thank you so much for the response. Truly appreciated.
Are there any color pages in it?
Outside of the cover page, its all black and white.
Thank you! 🙂
Just the cover!
You can also check local library might be a bit cheaper
I already purchased this last year and I can’t seem to find it anywhere in my email! Is there a way to download it again? Thanks!
Dear Jennifer,
I have just re-sent your download link.
Thank you for choosing my books, I’m honoured to be a part of your home education!
Warmly,
Lynn
I downloaded this today and I’m already so excited! It looks like the perfect resource to round out our preschool curriculum. I love that it includes some art and music! Do you have any suggestions of where to get prints of the artworks suggested?
Dear Jessica,
Thank you for taking the time to write to me, and for your kind words.
All the works are easily found with an internet search; I usually make each piece our desktop for the week.
Thank you for choosing my books, I’m honoured to be a part of your home education!
Warmly,
Lynn
I am so excited to have found this book! Where can I purchase a hard copy in the states or is it only available as a pdf? Thank you!
Hello there,
Thank you for your kind words!
My books are available as PDF downloads only.
Many of my UK customers use Pingles Publishing for printing and binding.
US customers have recommended the Homeschool Printing Company, and Hard Copy HQ
Happy exploring!
Lynn
Hi, will you have any coupon codes or sales coming up?
Hello there, the summer sale begins on Saturday!
Warmly,
Lynn
Thank you!
What ages I this book aimed at?
Dear Courtney,
Exploring Nature With Children is as family friendly, and multi-age as possible. It gives you the necessary scientific information for each week’s nature theme, then the parent can present those facts as they see fit, to each individual child. A child that is old enough to keep a nature journal will get the most out of it, but I have included suggestions for using the book with much younger children, too. ENWC is written to equip you as a parent, to talk with your child about nature, without having to go through a pile of different books first! The extension activities included vary; venn diagrams, writing poetry, making models, amongst many others. I have been very careful to use only relevant, authentic activities, with absolutely no busy work. Some will suit younger children, others are for the older child.
If you take a look at the samples, they should help you to decide if ENWC will be suitable for your own family.
Warmly,
Lynn

Hello, I was just curious about if you plan to have a sale for the exploring nature with children pdf again? I completely forgot to purchase before the 17th and plan on attending a nature homeschooling group in the next couple of weeks.
Dear Tanya,
I’m afraid that the next sale is in January. I do offer a discount to groups bulk ordering, so it’s possible that your group has one of those. If you check with the leader they should be able to advise.
Warmly,
Lynn
Hello, I’m having problems purchasing using my MC? I panicked thinking someone had gotten into our account! Nope, there is no reason for my card to be declined. I even tried using my hubby’s MC. I have no idea what the issue is? I would really love to purchase your, Exploring Nature With Children book. Can I pay through my PayPal account?
Dear Lisa-Renee,
I am terribly sorry that you are having this problem.
The most likely issue is that your bank is declining the payment because your account does not allow overseas transactions. (I am in England.) If you contact your bank directly and authorise the payment, you should be fine to check out.

How long will the sale last? This looks AWESOME!
Hi Lynn, saw the sample and it is for four seasons. However the place I stay in only has two seasons all along year. Is it possible that this will working out well for us? Fyi, I’m stay in rainforest country, your curriculum so lovely and I’m excited to apply for our 4 years old kid.
Dear Yessica,

I’ve tried purchasing this the last few days using both our debit card and a visa gift card. It keeps declining it even though there is money in both places. Is something maybe wrong with the system? Thank You!

Is this curriculum doable in a climate that doesn’t have great seasonal changes? Specifically Florida.

In September-coloured England!
Does it matter what time of year we start this? I am just not super inspired with the curriculum we are currently doing. Will this work for a small group of toddlers-preschool aged kids?
