My Calendar of Firsts this week:

  • The first real cold snap of winter! We are greeted by chilly, frosty mornings.
  • Glorious sunshine
  • A black garden slug rescued from the pond by Rose.
  • Mating frogs in our pond.
  • Meeting Charlie the Grass snake at the Reptile workshop at our local Pets At Home

My ‘colours’ for the week, along the top left hand page are not showing up that well in the photograph. I used grey-blue and yellow of the skies.

  1. Hi Lynn

Ooo frogs, frogspawn soon then, great. I can’t say I have seen any here, but we don’t have a pond …..yet, the grandparents do but haven’t got any frogs so far. I have been along to our new range store and bought a cheap tank so we are almost ready for our indoor pond, although the children want to raise tadpoles, so we will probably do that.

I will definitely have to book in at pets at home, a great opportunity. We don’t get a lot of opportunity to look at reptiles in this country so this is the next best thing. Rose looks like she is having a great time.

I understand the cold weather is due to continue for a while yet, still no sign of the white stuff though.

I have been further experimenting with my sketching, I tried gouache today which I rather liked, a little different to watercolour but not hugely, I think it offers an alternative and I will be using it again. My daughter liked it too although she found it more difficult to wash up afterwards 😉 she liked the depth of colour and control she could get over where the paint went.

    Best wishes

    Jenny

    1. I am hoping the colds snap will not kill off any frogspawn, Jenny. We shall see.

We have raised tadpoles indoors in the past. Great fun! The children must be very excited.

Glad to hear the sketching is coming on well. I have not really tried gouache much, I would love to hear how you find it.
